The summer typically brings vacations and down time for many people.
However, for Jamy Bechler, a motivational speaker and John Maxwell leadership coach based in Atlanta, his life kicks into high gear as this summer approaches.
He will be speaking to thousands of athletic directors and coaches at a number of large and prestigious conferences this summer.
“I look forward to this summer and all the people that I get to interact with”, said Bechler. “It will be exciting to have an audience with ADs and coaches. To be able to add even a little bit of value to them and what they are doing is an honor. They have such a responsibility as leaders of our next generation. They have such an opportunity to positively influence so many student-athletes.”
The main conferences that he will be speaking at include:
- The 2017 Head Coach Training Center will be held at the Mohegan Sun Casino, a short drive from Philadelphia. This conference is one of the biggest events in the country for training and equipping future college basketball head coaches. Some of the speakers will include Daniel Parker (Parker Executive Search Firm), Brian Stanchak (BDS Agency), Mike Neighbors (University of Arkansas head women’s coach), and Drew Marrochello (Boston University AD). Bechler will kick off the event as a keynote speaker.
- Camp Elevate is sponsored by True North Sports and will be held on the campus of Grand Valley State University in Michigan. It is a four-day camp for coaches of all sports and all levels. Bechler will be presenting a keynote address and a workshop session on developing team leadership and creating championship culture. Other prominent speakers scheduled to appear include former North Carolina and Notre Dame men’s basketball coach Matt Doherty, Olympian & Sports Psychologist Bo Hansen and Celia Slater, co-founder of the Women’s Coaching Alliance.
- The 10th Annual National Collegiate Recruiting Conference will be held at Duke University. College coaches come from all-across the nation to learn recruiting strategies and become better coaches. The conference is put on by Tudor Collegiate Strategies, the foremost recruiting consultants in college sports. This will be Bechler’s second appearance at the conference. He combines his nearly 20 years of collegiate coaching with his John Maxwell leadership training to help coaches better connect and add value to their recruits and future student-athletes. The speaker list will include award-winning author and sports business coach John Brubaker and Michael Cross, the Associate AD at Penn State.
- Nearly 1000 students will attend the Indiana High School Athletic Association Student Leadership Conference as Bechler will be a repeat presenter providing insights and strategies to student-athletes on how to brand themselves positively on social media. Other popular speakers include Dave Calabro (award-winning sports broadcaster), Harvey Alston (motivational speaker) and Chad Briscoe (NAIA Athletic Director).
“I love working with coaches and administrators because it can have a ripple effect”, said Bechler. “They are able to take the insights that I provide and then pass it on to their athletes. However, it is really fun when I get to actually work directly with students. When I go into schools during the year or at the IHSAA Leadership Conference this summer, that is what really makes it all worth it. Today’s athletes are our future.”
In addition to these conferences, he will also be releasing his first book, “The Leadership Playbook: Becoming Your Team’s Most Valuable Leader” later in the summer. Once this is finished, he will then embark upon a nation-wide book tour in the fall visiting colleges and high schools helping them develop leadership among their student-athletes.
