Christensen Named Director of Collegiate Consulting

(Akron, OH) – Bechler Enterprises, LLC, a national leader in athletic department consulting and leadership development, has announced that Dan Christensen will become its new Director of Collegiate Consulting.

The company was founded in 2017 by Jamy Bechler.  He is former college basketball coach and athletic administrator. Bechler has authored nine books, hosts the “Success is a Choice” podcast, and developed The Leadership Playbook online program.

The aim of Bechler Enterprises, LLC is to help develop positive leaders, stronger cultures, and build better teams. They primarily work within the education and athletics industry.

Christensen brings more than a decade of experience working directly with college coaches, administrators, and athletic departments across the country.

Southwest Baptist University Partners with Bechler Leadership for Swimming Search

Southwest Baptist University has hired Bechler Leadership to help find a head coach to begin the men’s and women’s swim programs.

Clark Sheehy is in his second year leading the Bearcat athletic department after a long and storied career as a men’s basketball coach at SBU, John Brown University, and Fresno Pacific University. 

Men’s and women’s swimming has been a Great Lakes Valley Conference sport since 2013. SBU will be the 12th men’s team and 11th women’s team in the conference.

The College of Saint Mary athletic director Robbie Shay has announced they are partnering with Bechler Leadership in its’ search for a new women’s basketball coach.

“We believe there’s a lot of potential here,” said Shay. “With our revamped scholarships, first-class facilities, and beautiful location we wanted to maximize the opportunities available to us to get the right coach in place. Bechler Leadership has had great results filling positions at other schools and we’re excited to work with their team.”

5 Things to Do When You Join the “I Got Fired” Club

“Hey, Jamy, do you have a minute?”

This was the question the athletic director asked me as I was getting ready to take my college basketball team on a team-building experience. 

It was early January and school had not yet started.

Little did I know that in the next few minutes, I would be receiving my invitation to a well-known club that has plenty of members all across the country.

“Jamy, we are going to go in a different direction at the end of the year and you will not be returning as our head coach.”

And just like that, as one of the younger head coaches at the NCAA level, I was a card-carrying member of the “I Got Fired” club.

I have been involved with numerous job searches, both as a candidate and while serving on committees.  Whether you are looking for a part-time job, a job in your current industry or thinking about changing careers, you have to figure out a way to differentiate yourself.  Nearly every job that is available will be a difficult up-hill battle to secure.  The odds are sometimes stacked against you because there is so much competition, but there are some things that you can do to help you increase your odds slightly and give you a better chance. Obviously, not all bosses, hiring committees or jobs are alike, but there are some general rules that applicants should follow if they want to give themselves a fighting chance to get an interview.
