Success during the regular season doesn’t just happen because we want it to. Wishing is not a strategy.

Whatever we want for our athletes, coaching staff, or team during the regular season must be built in the offseason. Games and matches might be contested during the regular season, but athletes and teams are made in the offseason.

Jackie Robinson was the first African-American to play major-league baseball when he suited up for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. It is a great story of how a person’s influence can make a difference.

In breaking the color barrier, Robinson faced all kinds of abuse, both physically and verbally.  One day when the Dodgers were playing at home, he committed an error while playing second base.  The crowd began to get nasty.  Even his own fans were being rude and loud.

This winter there was a snowstorm resulting in a 50-car pileup on the Ohio turnpike, which included some fatalities and dozens of motorists stranded in the freezing weather.

Some administrators from a nearby school district didn’t just see the news and feel sorry for all of those people.

No, they saw an opportunity to make a bad situation a little bit better.
