Randy Brown is a basketball lifer and ambassador. His 20-year college men’s coaching career is as diverse and successful as any. At the age of 21 he set three goals; become a Div. Honor Them

“There is nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured by what is right in America.” (President Bill Clinton)

Since the Tragic shooting in Michigan on November 30th that took the lives of four Oxford HS students and injured 7 others, political opportunists have wasted little time weaponizing the situation and crafting their talking points.

But my thoughts today aren’t about politics.

Please click here to listen to the 6-minute audio version of this article from the Success is a Choice podcast network.

My thoughts on the Oxford tragedy aren’t about who’s right, who’s wrong, who’s to blame, or even how this could have ever happened in the first place.

Leadership ISN’T about titles, position, authority, or status. Leadership is about influence. It’s about one person influencing another. You don’t need a title to be a leader. You don’t need a title to be a person of influence.

Anyone can lead regardless of their role because everyone has the ability to influence. If people respect you and believe in you, then your opportunities to influence increase exponentially.

Consider the case of Harriet Tubman.

Motivational Minute: Our Choices Today

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.” (Aristotle)

Most choices that we have in life are simple.

Knowing the right thing to do is not the hard part rather choosing to do the right thing is the difficult part.

What Really Matters in Life

In a NY Times interview, Walt Bettinger, the Chief Executive of Charles Schwab talked about the lessons he learned in college:

“A business strategy course in my senior year stands out. I had maintained a 4.0 average all the way through, and I wanted to graduate with a perfect average. It came down to the final exam, and I had spent many hours studying and memorizing formulas to do calculations for the case studies.
