The right to an opinion doesn’t make our opinion right.

Leonardo da Vinci once said, “The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions.”
We see this all the time whether it’s watching TV, scrolling through social media, gathering around the water cooler, or hanging out with family and friends.
Just because we have an opinion on something doesn’t mean we are right.
A wise man once faced a group of people who were complaining about the same issues over and over again.

One day, instead of listening to the complaints, he told them a joke, and everyone cracked up laughing.
I woke up this morning running late and the last thing I wanted to do was take 30-seconds to make my bed.
Maybe you’ve been right there with me struggling between listening to that pesky little bed-making devil on one shoulder and that cleanliness-is-next-to-godliness angel on the other shoulder.
After all, that bed is just going to get messed up again that night, anyway, who will ever see it?

Ellen Degeneres came under fire when she was caught on camera at a nationally televised Dallas Cowboys game sitting next to former U.S. President George Bush. It seems that some people are so angry and disagreeable that they think everyone else should be also.
It got so bad that Ellen had to address it on her show the next day.

After Amber Guyger was sentenced in the 2018 murder of Brandt’s brother Botham, he said that he forgave her and asked the judge if he could give her a hug.
Clara Barton, the founder of the American Red Cross, understood the importance of choosing a right attitude even in bad situations. She was known to be someone that avoided grudges. One time a friend reminded her of a cruel thing that had happened to her previously, but Clara seemed not to remember the incident. “Don’t you remember the wrong that was done to you?, the friend asked. Clara answered calmly. “No, I distinctly remember forgetting that.”

I was playing well and doing my fair share of trash talking that day. Finally, my friend had enough of this as some of my verbal barrage was directed at him.
He told us that he didn’t want to play any more and that we all had to leave. You see, he was the one that had the key to the gym and had opened it up for us to play. He literally took his ball and went home. He didn’t have very thick skin and didn’t react to the situation very well. I, on the other hand, was not very respectful as I acted like a punk.
Most of the time, showing respect to people (even those that you don’t think deserve it) is more a reflection of your character than it is a reflection of theirs.
