That Time My Wife Got Her Way … and I Was Glad

“Every man wants a wife who is beautiful, understanding, economical and a good cook.  But the law allows only one wife.”

I hit the jackpot.  My wife is all of those.  However, I am also like most husbands in that I think I am always right.

She puts up with my delusions and still loves me.

She knows how to pick her battles and doesn’t protest every silly thing I say or decision I make.  If she did, she’d constantly have a picket sign in her hand marching around the sidewalk in front of our house.

However, a few years ago, she memorably put her foot down and didn’t let me get away with making a silly decision.  It was the best thing she could have done because the results of that decision have been life-altering.

Episode 071: Shoshanna Gabriel, Christian Inspirational Fiction Writer

Shoshanna Gabriel is a Christian inspirational fiction writer. She has a very unique story as she was was previously known as Shoshanna Evers, a NY Times and USA Today bestselling author who wrote erotic fiction from 2009-2015 and was published by large New York publishing houses. At the end of 2015, after much thought and prayer, she changed her life and career path to be for God’s glory completely, giving up a new six-book contract and literary agent for the privilege of starting over to write for God’s glory as Shoshanna Gabriel.

No one expected a Jewish erotic romance author from New York to move to the country and find Jesus, least of all Shoshanna herself… but God has a sense of humor, and that’s what happened. She took 2016 off from publishing to raise her new boy/girl twins(!), and started writing sweet Christian inspirational cowboy romance novels set in north Idaho, where she lives with her husband, homeschools their three kids, wrangles three big dogs named after flowers, and takes in the wonder of the incredible evergreen-covered mountain landscape.

While published as Shoshanna Evers, Amazon had listed her as one of the “Most Popular Authors in Romance,” as well as one of the “Most Popular Authors in Contemporary Romance”. Reviewers have said Shoshanna has “…beautiful writing, and a truly imaginative and wonderfully descriptive storyline” (Night Owl Reviews) with stories where “the plot is fresh and the pacing excellent, the emotions…real and poignant.” (The Romance Studio). She hopes to bring the gift of storytelling that God blessed her with to her new inspirational books written under the Gabriel name.

Shoshanna used to work as a syndicated advice columnist in NY and a registered nurse, but now she’s a full-time author, home-schooling mom, and the co-founder of SelfPubBookCovers.com, the world’s leading marketplace of high-quality, affordable premade book covers for indie authors, available instantly.

In today’s episode, we discuss:

  • Writing fiction stories and the life of a writer
  • Conversion from Orthodox Jew to Born-Again Christian
  • Going from writing best-selling erotic novels to Christian romance novels
  • How authors can get high-quality and low priced book covers

Tony Gaskins Jr. is a motivational speaker, author, and life coach who has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show.  Tony built his brand from scratch to where he now has more than 1 million followers on social media. At 22, he became an author. At 23, he became a husband and father. At 25, he started his first company, Soul Writers LLC. At 25, he also got himself on globally televised shows to tell a portion of his story. Tony decided to turn his pain into purpose and live a life of service. Raised in the church and being the son of a pastor, there was something about service that stuck with Tony.

Tony made his fair share of mistakes like most young men from areas like where he grew up. Many of his childhood friends are serving life sentences in prison. Although Tony was introduced to the street life between the ages of 18–23, he finally found his way. At 23, he allowed love to change his life. His message comes from his mess. He believes that we all are coaches because we’ve all learned lessons that can help someone else. Operating in his gifts also took him around the world as a highly sought- after speaker. Tony has spoken in two other continents and over 10 different countries and counting. Tony was able to accomplish these feats by the tender age of 31.

He doesn’t believe in boxes. “Don’t put me in a box until I’m going in the ground,” he says. He covers a wide range of topics in the areas of life, love, and business. He’s written several books on those subjects with his latest work being The Dream Chaser published by Wiley and available everywhere books are sold.

Stop Being a ‘BUT’

I heard an interview with MVP Steph Curry the other night after Game 6 of the NBA Finals, in which he made a comment that got me thinking about my pre-maritial counseling.

Wait, what?!?

You mean it’s not natural to associate Steph Curry getting ejected and throwing mouth-pieces with pre-maritial counseling?
